If you’ve come to this page today after watching the C4 documentary, and then searching the web for information about the remake of the 1955 film The Dam Busters – the answer is there is no news. The film project is in the hands of Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings fame, and is ‘in production’. Sir Peter is himself very busy on his new Hobbit film and, it would appear, has put The Dam Busters on the back burner for the moment. At various times over the last five years we have been promised that filming would start in 2009, 2010 and 2011. The best guess now is that it won’t be until 2013 at the earliest.

Hello, I am newly registered to your blog but I have avidly read your posts, especially in anticipating the release of Jackson’s much anticipated re-make. I eagerly welcome updates from this site as ANY news on Jackson’s plans comes to light.
How Bloody frustrating, I wish he hadn’t even mentioned it. 2013 ? with my health situation, i probably won’t see it.
Such a shame that this project is taking so long. Does anyone out there know the reason that this has taken Peter Jackson so long to realise his dream? We’ve all heard about how young the cast must be and that’s a good thing. Although Tom Cruise would be my millionth choice. We know that the best person has written the script. Stephen Fry knows his stuff. That Jackson has built the Lancaster bombers from scratch in NZ and can manage this project without a problem. He’s has had the best tech adviser in Les Munro who was partly on the actual raid. One asks oneself what Guy Gibson would be saying to Jackson right know about “getting the job done and we’ve only got six weeks to do it!” and even perhaps that “Look old boy, it only took four years to build the Moehne Dam! And you have spent how many years to breach it with CGI?”
We youngsters, many of whom are now in phases of dotage grew up with this story are a major part of your audience and have all seen and read the original more than once. We know you’ll get it right. WE all want another generation of 14 YRO spotty youths to have the same experience. It’s important that in this day and age this may be one of the only ways to convey it.
So be a good chap Mr Jackson and royally extract the digit before we’re all too old to fire up our Tiger Moths to get to the cinema.
